1st Chard Wheelers weekend

Dec 07, 2011

Weekend in somerset

Saturday night kicked off with a 70 person buffet dinner with the 1st Chard Wheelers ( not CC like I said previous, sorry bout that) with lots of awards to give out, it was great to see all the categories full with riders, u16′s, Ladies, seniors and vets too. They even had a social side too.  I like the sound of that.
After all trophies and medals were handed out, then it was onto the 45 minute Q and A.
Lots of things were talked about, how do i train ( not very often), coaching, favorite races ( crits ), John Herety ( top bloke ), even my little TV stint with Ned Boulting ( another top bloke ), actually that was quite a popular talking point. Maybe next year I’ll be back with him.

Sunday was to be a steady club run. Brandon Ellis wasn’t sure how many people would turn up for the short couple of hours ride to the cafe and back. 40 riders jumped on their bikes in a cold, so we had to split the group, we didn’t want to piss any car drivers off. But the inevitable happened and we joined together and rolled into the cafe on mass.
After a quick coffee and cake and group photos, it was onwards with the return journey to Chard. Club runs are great fun, and this one was no exception. Attacks were coming think and fast from the u16′s until one of the ladies stamped her authority on it and flew up the climb to end the youngsters hopes.

What a great weekend to be involved in and a big thanks to Brandon Ellis for letting us stay over in his home and to his wife Sarah for looking after Katy whilst we were out on our bikes having fun.

It was a pleasure to meet so many enthusiastic riders with a great passion for cycling.
Keep up the good work 1st Chard Wheelers.

Oh one last thing, watch out for this name Ryan White currently age 12 and taller than me.. ( not hard I know) future talent
